Here's how our custom-designed tracking system works: As soon as our client receives a customer order, Aircom's system is notified. The software tells us what product to ship, verifies the scanned product's part number and serial number, and prints a packing list. Through integration with UPS, the package is then automatically placed into the delivery schedule.

The whole shipping process takes just 30 seconds, and at the end of the day, Aircom creates a file containing all of the orders shipped, with their PO numbers, line numbers, part numbers, serial numbers and UPS tracking numbers, along with the shipping date. All of this information is transferred back to Aircom's client, who may then share the information with its individual customers.

"There's no room for human error," says Bjoern Gottschild, Aircom's Director of IT and Logistics. "It's all barcoded; there's no typing. The system just processes it."

Working hand-in-hand with one client, Aircom recently designed such a process for a high-volume job that the client was not equipped to handle alone. "The system is set up so that we can ship up to 800 packages a day from one station," Gottschild said.
